35 Week Pregnancy Update

Gender – Last week we confirmed that she’s 100% a girl!  I still wondered if she’d end up being a boy because our ultrasound tech at 20 weeks said she “saw the goods but couldn’t get the baby to show us again”.  Trusting a lady who saw gender herself but couldn’t show us was tough for me.  Our sonogram last week confirmed that our baby is definitely a girl!

Movement – The baby is head down (yay) with her head positioned in my lower left abdomen and her feet in my upper right abdomen.  Her booty and feet definitely snuggle up into my right ribcage, so I feel that movement often.

Baby Prep – Last week I finished packing our hospital bag, I washed all of the baby’s newborn and 3 month clothes, and I organized the nursery a bit.  I also made an appointment to get the carseat inspected, so it’ll be good to have that taken care of.  The last few things on my list include putting together the baby gear and finishing the nursery.

Food cravings – Last week I had many moments where I’d just stand in front of the fridge with no cravings at all.  I’m at a point in pregnancy where I get full really easily, so it’s hard to pick things that will provide lots of nutrients but not fill up my stomach too quickly.  I’ve still been loving salads, smoothies, and PB&J sandwiches (cashew butter and grape jelly on P28 bread last week).  I’m sure I’d happily eat pasta every day if I allowed myself to, but I’m really trying to control my weight gain this last bit of pregnancy.  I’m definitely getting into the “holy moly, I’m feeling really big” zone.

Workouts – Last week’s workouts were ehh.  I honestly overdid it during my Tuesday night spin class and felt it the next day.  We had a guest instructor, who was great, but her workout for us that night was just too much for me.  She taught a bell curve class where we essentially were on a hill the entire 45 minutes.  We built up to the top of a hill during the first half of the class and then came down the hill the second half.  Awesome workout, but too much for me.  My heart rate was in what I’ve considered my pregnancy red zone way too early in the workout and it took a lot to back off of that.  Lesson learned.  Sunday’s spin class was great and I felt just fine.  I still plan to workout moving forward, but as my doctor said last week, I need to start backing off.

Sleep – My sleep has definitely gone downhill!  I am tossing and turning at night, but can’t actually toss or turn.  Getting out of bed has also become a joke.  Who knew pushing myself up would be so hard.  I literally do this roll off the bed, which is mad awkward.  It’s pretty funny, but at 2AM and 4:30AM when I tend to get up to pee, it isn’t all that funny.  Lack of quality sleep is definitely getting to me (and Neal I’m sure), but I’m doing what I can to get comfortable and to stay comfortable during the night.

Symptoms – Last week I had a few headaches, which the doctor attributes to me overexerting myself (again, lesson learned).  My legs are also cramping a lot at night (mainly in my booty and calves), so I’ve been trying to eat a banana every day and to stretch when I can.  My body is definitely feeling the effects of being 35 weeks pregnant.

Doctors Appointments – Last week we had a 34 week ultrasound and doctors appointment.  The ultrasound was amazing and I just can’t believe how much our baby has grown since 20 weeks.  She was sticking out her tongue during the ultrasound, which was just about the cutest thing ever!  The doctor said she looks amazing and is “in a normal weight range”, whatever that means.  I’m still measuring on track for a September 8, 2014 due date.

Thoughts and feelings – Oh third trimester and how you play with my emotions.  This last bit of pregnancy has been tough at times.  It’s a big old ball of emotions and you never know what you’re going to feel each day.  Some days I feel amazing and other days I feel huge and uncomfortable.  Some day I can’t wait for the baby to arrive and then other days I’m freaking out about her arrival and all the changes to come.  I’ve had to work really hard to let go of any anxiety I might be feeling and to trust that God has a perfect plan.  I know I just have to be patient and to allow the next 5 week unfold just as the first 35 have.

Aside from restless nights and achy legs, I’ve been feeling really great!  I can’t believe that in one week we’ll only have a month until our due date!
