The Bump

37 week pregnancy update

Movement – I still love feeling my baby girl kick and punch but I’ll admit, it hurts sometimes!!

Baby Prep – I didn’t really do any baby prep last week, at least that I can remember, but everything is pretty much done.  I will say though that I’m SO incredibly excited about our new Halo Bassinest and can’t wait to get it assembled!  I was sent the bassinest to review and just know it’s going to be a saving grace once our daughter arrives!  The last big thing I want to do is to hang some art work in the nursery, but honestly I might just wait for my mom to get into town.  I’m a little nervous about putting holes in the wall and then not liking where I’ve hung things.  My mom is much better at decorating, so I think waiting on her would be best.  Other than that, I might just buy a few things off our registry and then call it a day!  I really feel like we’ve done what we need to do pre-baby!

Mommy Prep –  PUMPKIN BEER!!!! Although I may not be able to have much, I am so excited to crack open a pumpkin beer after the baby arrives!  Schlafly Pumpkin Ale is one of my favorites, so I’ve already bought a 6 pack (or two).  I may be drinking pumpkin beer all winter after my 10 month hiatus.

Food cravings – HOLY MOLY Y’ALL!!! My hunger reached a whole new level last week! I kid you not.  I have been so incredibly hungry and it just doesn’t make sense.  To start, I wake up almost every night around 3AM to a growling stomach!!  I haven’t given in to my cereal cravings, but I want to!  I have a big breakfast (eggs, veggies, p28 bread for example) and 2 hours later I’m super hungry again.  I’ve packed snacks for work, a hearty lunch (usually including a whole grain to keep me full), and more snacks, and still, I’m super hungry by the time I get home from work.  Honestly, I felt gross last week!  I was so hungry but I just felt like I was always eating!  I tried to eat as healthy as I could, having protein and salads for dinners, but it was a tough week.  I definitely feel the weight packing on towards the end of this pregnancy!

Workouts – I had some awesome workouts last week!! The weather was amazing, so I took full advantage of it!  I went for some long walks with Neal before and after work and went to spin twice.  Both spin workouts were awesome!! I felt great after both!

Sleep – Ehh…. I think I’m going to start sleeping in the recliner!  Sleeping in my bed is just so uncomfortable these days and it definitely affects my energy the next day.  I’ve gotten into a habit of falling asleep on the couch (they are recliners) and waking up between 1 and 3AM to move upstairs.  I think I just need to stay put and sleep downstairs until the baby arrives.

Symptoms – TMI but here’s a new one for y’all…. PUPPP.  Nope, didn’t make that one up!  I woke up Saturday morning with a rash all over my belly.  I called my OBGYN and they told me to go to my primary care.  My doctor quickly diagnosed me with a mild case of PUPPP.  Trust me, don’t google it!! The severe cases kinda grossed me out.  In a nutshell, PUPPP is a skin rash that occurs late in pregnancy, usually in the last 4-6 weeks.  It occurs in 1/200 first time mothers and almost always to mothers of boys.  The cause is unknown and it does not cause any harm to the mother or baby.  It honestly just looks like poison ivy and itches just like it.  I have been taking Benadryl every night and have been using calamine lotion like a champ.  My doctor said it’ll go away after the baby arrives, so hopefully it’s just a final hurdle before she makes her debut.

Doctors Appointments – Today we have our week 37 appointment.  I’m REALLY hoping we’ve made some progress, but I have a feeling the doctor is going to say the same thing as last week.  I don’t feel like the baby has dropped, so I’m assuming she hasn’t.  We shall see.

Thoughts and feelings – I’ve been really at peace about the baby arriving when she’s ready, but I’ll admit it, something changed last week.  I’m starting to feel huge, I’m not sleeping as well, and I’m just incredibly ready to meet our daughter.  I can’t control when she arrives, so I know I just have to enjoy each day and each moment.  Neal’s and my new saying is “we’re one day closer to meeting ____” and it’s true!! We’re one day closer to meeting our daughter and it doesn’t get much better than that!

Aside from my eagerness and new rash, I’m honestly doing just fine.  I’ve been incredibly blessed with such a healthy pregnancy and know I just need to stay focused until the end!  It’s amazing what my body has done and how it has changed in order to grow our daughter!  Our bodies are pretty amazing!  Here are weeks 17, 27, and 37…
