This past weekend was an absolutely beautiful spring weekend here in Washington, DC! After a perfect Saturday, filled with a 4 mile walk, lots of cleaning, grocery shopping, and a good old nap, Neal and I woke up at 4:30AM yesterday morning to head downtown DC for the 2014 Cherry Blossom 10 Miler race.
We were on the metro by 5:30AM and made our way down to the National Mall by 6:30AM, giving Neal an hour to prep before the start of the race.
It was actually quite chilly yesterday morning before the sun came up, so Neal was extremely thankful that I had two hats on me. We hung out up until the start of the race and then I headed over to the 1 mile/5 mile marks.
It was so fun seeing Neal run and to be able to walk along the tidal basin under the cherry trees.
Although the trees weren’t in full bloom just yet, I loved stopping by the spot where Neal proposed at 2.5 years ago and reminiscing. It was just a beautiful morning downtown!
Before I knew it, my Speedy Gonzalez had finished the race and had a nice and shiny new PR to celebrate! Neal CRUSHED his previous 10 mile PR taking 10 minutes and 12 seconds off of his fastest time! Neal ran an average 8:50 mile, finishing the 10 miler in 1:28.24. I am incredibly proud of him!
After getting cleaned up, Neal and I headed down to Nationals Park for the 1:35PM game against the Atlanta Braves. Neal and I have a LOT of history at this ballpark, so it’s wonderful coming back year after year. Our first e-mails to each other via Match.com were sent from the ballpark, we had our first date in section 408, we’ve attended a ton of games, we took our engagement photos around the park, and we had our rehearsal dinner at the park! It is a very, very special place!
We watched the Nationals win and then headed back home to relax with our pooch! It was an absolutely perfect day and a wonderful way to close out our first spring weekend!
