This weekend Neal and I drove to Niagara Falls, Ontario to meet up with some of his family for a mini getaway. Though Friday morning was a little crazy and it took us longer to get out of town, we were on the road by 11AM.
Funny enough, I definitely thought it was only a 6 hour drive to Niagara Falls, but we quickly realized we’d be on the road for about 8 hours. The drive was smooth and we made it to Canada just in time to have pizza with the family in the hotel.
Saturday was an absolutely beautiful day in Canada and we had a lot of plans!
We kicked off the day with breakfast in the hotel, which was really, really yummy! I got a veggie and bacon omelet, potatoes, pineapple, 1/4 of a waffle, 1 sausage link, coffee, and water.
After breakfast we walked down to the falls. The falls from the Canadian side are absolutely beautiful. They were still a little iced over, but they were magnificent.
Early afternoon we headed over to Neal’s aunt’s house for coffee and desserts and then we headed over to Niagara-on-the-Lake for shopping and dinner. Niagara-on-the-Lake is an absolutely adorable town about 30 minutes from downtown Niagara Falls, Ontario. It reminded me of Old Town Alexandria, with its quaint shops and various restaurants.
We ended up at a pub for dinner, though I have no idea what it was called. I started dinner with an order of onion soup, which was really yummy.
For dinner I ordered the Greek salad and asked them to top it with salmon. This is what I ended up with, so I think salmon salads aren’t common in that area. It was really yummy, but topped with too much dressing on the salad and fish.
Yesterday Neal and I grabbed breakfast in the hotel and then hit the road in order to make it back to DC before the sun set. Though we love getting away, it’s always nice to come back home with a little bit of weekend left. We cleaned the house, put away laundry, went grocery shopping, and prepped for the week ahead. It was the perfect end to a fun weekend away.
