The Bump
Gender – We’re having a girl!
Movement – Nothing I can really put my finger on. I think I felt a legit kick early one morning last week but I haven’t felt anything since. I really think she’s like her dad, mellow and super chill. Emotional mom here is a little worried, but I’m sure I’ll be feeling her soon enough and then I’ll want her to stop kicking my ribs.
Maternity clothes – I am loving my maternity clothes. Maternity pants have been tough though. The pants that fit in my legs are too big around the waist, but I’m sure they’ll fit perfect in a few weeks. For now, I’m pulling up my pants and rocking my maternity tops. I am LOVING these pants I found through Old Navy. I’m probably going to buy another pair.
Food cravings – Last week I was craving Doritos like whoa! Thankfully my husband has a stash of mini bags for his lunches, which I’ve never touched until last week. I had one bag with a burger on Saturday and then a few at a BBQ on Sunday. Other than that I’m still craving all of the foods that give me wicked heartburn like tomato sauce, lemons, pickles, and hot sauce. I’m hoping to get my heartburn a little more under control moving forward, but my cravings aren’t helping.
Workouts – I’ve really been enjoying my workouts lately! I’m hoping to add in Zumba this next week.
- Monday- Weight lifting
- Tuesday- 45 minute spin class
- Wednesday- Rest
- Thursday- Weight lifting and long walk at lunch
- Friday- Long walk at lunch
- Saturday- Long walk
- Sunday- Long walk and weight lifting
Sleep – I was a lot more restless this past week according to my Fitbit and I definitely felt the difference some nights. It’s amazing to see how much my sleep has changed over the weeks.
Baby Prep – Now that we know what we’re having, I’ve really enjoyed making lists of everything we’ll need for the baby. It’s a little overwhelming at times, but I know that in the end she doesn’t need much. I had a hard time deciding where to create a registry but ended up going with Babies R Us as they are located around the US. Creating the registry was a lot of fun and made it all very real. I also bought my first baby item off Esty, eek, and I’m in love. I love handmade items and knew my husband would love this onesie.
Neal’s mom is also spoiling us rotten and has sent us some of the most adorable clothes ever!! I am absolutely obsessed with this outfit and can’t wait to dress our girl in lots and lots of coral. Coral is definitely my pink.
Neal and I also have our crib and dresser picked out, so hopefully we’ll be able to order those this month. It’s all just very exciting.
Missing anything – Same as last week, I miss playing football.
Thoughts and feelings – All in all, I’m feeling really good. The baby is definitely growing and it’s amazing to see my belly stretch and grow. I had my gallbladder removed years ago, so it’s weird to see those scars stretch and move. My bellybutton is probably the weirdest thing ever. It has stretched out a lot and is a much bigger hole now than it was before. It’s just amazing how the skin stretches and then “bounces” back after delivery. One awesome thing about being plus size is that stretch marks aren’t a big deal to me. I’ve had them for years thanks to my growth spurt and weight gain in my teens, so I’m not too worried about any new marks on my belly. If I do get any new ones they’ll just be battle scars.
I’d like to say I’m not overly concerned about being pregnant in the summer, but as the days have gotten warmer I’ve definitely started to realize how much hotter I’m going to feel this summer (and not in a good way). I’ll be in air conditioned buildings 90% of the time but it’s still going to be a hot one. It’ll all payoff though when I’m holding the baby and resting at home during the cool and crisp fall months. I already have my Bath and Body Works fall candles ready and my pumpkin beers picked out! It’s going to be an epic fall.
Other stuff that’s going on… Neal and I are researching birthing/cpr/newborn classes at the moment. I honestly had no idea how expensive the would be, but I don’t think I want to go without the classes. It’s an investment right? I also got a “pre-diabetic” screening back that essentially told the doctor “yep, you shouldn’t have judged her based on the scale”. Long story short, the doctor didn’t say a thing to me in my last appt but then sent a nurse out to ask for a blood sample. The nurse went on to explain that the doctor was concerned about my weight. The truth is, I want to be healthy and I’ll take whatever tests a doctor needs me to take to make sure the baby and I are ok…. but grow a pair and talk to me during my appointment. The same nurse called me back with the results and we had a good chuckle. Obviously anything can happen and I’m grateful that my blood results came back good, but it made me feel good knowing that the doctor should have talked to me more before assuming that I’m pre-diabetic because of my weight.
Eats have been pretty good, as you can see from Sunday’s food journal blog post, but I’m trying to eat more veggies this week. Just trying to make small changes each week. All in all things are good and I’m excited to be in my 23 week.
Looking forward to – Walking the Susan G Komen Global Race for the Cure 5K this Saturday with my dear friend Becky! I’m looking forward to getting out and supporting an amazing cause.
