Neal and I had an absolutely wonderful weekend last weekend! Though we had a few plans on our calendar I made it my mission to get a few things done off my “pre-baby to do list”. It started off Saturday morning when I finally reorganized our files and important paperwork. I did this a few years ago when Neal and I got married, but I wanted to get things in better order before the baby arrives.
The next big task was the guest room. With family coming to visit this summer and fall, I wanted to make sure the room was organized and decorated. Neal and I seriously moved the furniture at least 4 times, but we finally settled on a layout.
We moved Neal’s dresser back into the master bedroom, put the queen size bed on the back wall, kept the desk next to the closet, and added a bookcase for my books. I still need to buy a bed skirt and curtains, but otherwise the guest room is good to go!
It was fun going through my books and reminiscing about my past studies while cleaning. Each shelf holds a path I was/am on at some point in life. Here are a few things my bookcase says about me…
1. Top shelf – I studied Theology at Wesley Seminary for a full year before deciding to get my Masters from Kansas State University
2. Middle shelf – I studied Russian all 4 years of undergrad… and hardly remember anything. Womp womp! So much for keeping up with my studies. I am still in love with the Russian language and culture though so I try to incorporate pieces of Russian art into my decorating around the house (as seen on the top of the bookshelf).
3. Bottom shelf - I have a Master of Science in Academic Advising for Student-Athletes from Kansas State University and use my degree on a daily basis.
I’m so happy the guest room is organized and decorated! It’s one more thing off the to do list and I’m really excited to see the house come together. The next big purchase is going to be a dining room table and baby room furniture, but thankfully we have time! It’ll all get done!
