This weekend Neal and I attended our first birth class in preparation for our daughter’s arrival. Bright and early Saturday morning we headed over to Falls Church, Virginia for our 8 hour intensive class with Lamaze International.
We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into to be perfectly honest! While I wanted to be prepared and to learn more about labor, I’ve got to admit that I kinda liked being oblivious.
Though the class was really long, Neal and I learned a lot on Saturday! I really appreciated learning about the signs of labor, relaxation techniques, and all of the twists and turns that can come during the stages of labor.
Neal and I left the class feeling so much more prepared for the big day! In the end, we want our baby girl to be as healthy as possible and plan to just take it all one step at a time.
After the class Neal and I headed home to rescue our pooch and to enjoy an evening at home. We watched the Nationals game, enjoyed dinner, and then I did a little “baking”. As I kid I loved making “Raggedy Robbins” (no bake peanut butter and chocolate cookies) and thought it’d be fun to make them for some friends. I loved hearing on my Instagram what other readers call these cookies, as everyone seems to have a different name for them!
Raggedy Robbins
1 stick of butter
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup milk (I used almond milk)
3 tablespoons cocoa
1/2 cup peanut butter
3 cups quick oats
Combine butter, sugar, milk, cocoa, and peanut butter in a sauce pan over medium-high heat. Stir often and bring to a boil. Allow the mixture to boil for about a minute and then remove from heat. Once off the heat, add in quick oats and combine. Quickly drop tablespoon size scoops of the mixture onto wax paper and allow the cookies to cool completely. Some people like to refrigerate or freeze the cookies, it just depends on how you like to eat them!
Sunday morning I enjoyed some me time! I started off the day with a 50 minute spin class at The Pedal Studio in Olney and then headed over to the farmers market.
At the market I bought 2 cucumbers, cherries, cherry tomatoes, basil, and jalapenos.
I also bought an iced coffee at the Zeke’s Coffee stand, which was delicious with my breakfast (2 eggs and 2 slices of Ezekiel bread with coconut oil).
After breakfast Neal and I ran a few errands around town. I bought some new workout pants at Lane Bryant, swung by the bank, grabbed smoothies at Jamba Juice, ran into Target for floss, and bought a few things at Home Depot. By the time we got home I was pretty wiped out so I took an awesome 2 hour nap before working on a few things around the house. We also fired up the grill and made Applegate turkey dogs to go along with our salads and cherries.
Overall it was a really great weekend! I’m really looking forward to the shortened work week, the 4th of July, and my mom and sister’s arrival next weekend! It’s going to be an awesome start to the month of July!
